About The Festival

The Hudson Valley Chalk Festival sponsored by Water Street Market supports a 500-year-old street art tradition originating in the streets of Italy. Our vision is to share this art form, by gathering the top street painters in the country and bringing them to the Hudson Valley for the community to be able to participate, be educated, and entertained by this unique experience. This ephemeral art is a combination of performance art, and fine art. The viewers and artists interact in a special way that influences the art. We connect local artists with professional street painters to help introduce them to this amazing art form. We are very proud to able to share this gift with the Hudson Valley.

The festival is a free event for the community, with activities for everyone! The professional street painters that we have join us are NOT paid, they donate their time to share this amazing art form with our community. The professional street painters not only chalk, but also help to teach local artists from the Hudson Valley area how to work in this new medium. Many of the local artists that we have join us stay in contact with the professionals, and come back year after year to chalk!

Partners

The Hudson Valley Chalk Festival has partnered with Arrive in Kenya to help use street art to empower street kids in Kenya. Arrive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable children around the world. In partnership with local organizations, Arrive restores hope and self-confidence by empowering at risk youth, orphans, and street children. We have six artists this year who will be chalking images of the children in Kenya!

Arrive works with local Kenyan non-profit organizations and together, they have established and financially supported multiple childrens’ homes and other projects in areas such Kisii County, Kenya; and Uriri (Migori County, Kenya; in partnership with Light Uriri), both villages in the rural western Nyanza Province of Kenya. The children Arrive rescues immediately move from a life of drug addiction, starvation, and homelessness to one of hope and opportunity. Every child goes to school, sleeps in his or her own bed, eats three healthy meals per day, lives a healthy and sober life, and is happy. Most importantly, they learn skills that prepare them for a fulfilling and successful life after school.
